È il viaggio del protagonista verso il paese natio per l’ultimo saluto al padre morente e contemporaneamente è il suo percorso di ritorno verso l’infanzia e l’adolescenza da cui era fuggito. È una presa di coscienza del fatto che la vita ha senso solo se posta in contrappeso al mistero indescrivibile ed ineluttabile della morte, di fronte a cui tutto acquista un altro peso e si riallinea con una certa percezione profonda del mondo. L’ultima eredità è quel senso di appartenenza alla vita che ristabilisce la scala dei valori prioritari.
